I needed to practice with my club, so for three months I did. I concentrated in my academics and finally I was able to develop my social life, the teenage life that water polo had taken away; which by the way, I don’t regret. Going on, before my vacations, I was told that we would start practicing with the national team on January 4th. Unfortunately things changed. The FDPN (Federacion Deportiva Peruana de Natacion) decided to change their water polo routine and flip their strategy, they wanted us to practice with our clubs and forget about the national team until we were one week away from the tournament. I don’t want you to think that I am bias but this plan is horrible, especially if your country only has 250 water polo players were only 10 know how to play the sport correctly. Things kept on getting worse. We were told that we had a South American championship U20 in Bolivia and that for economic problems they had switched the host country and the new one was Peru. I don’t want to sound mediocre but expectations get even higher when you play in your country and let me remind you that we are still practicing with our clubs. Once I heard this switch I decided to do something that I should have done months ago, practice by myself, and when I say practice, I mean intensive, unreal practice. |
