As part of our summer reading; as a class we decided to read "The Great Gatsby". We chose this book not only because of its rich language but especially because it was related to the topic that we were investigating The American Dream. After reading the book we decided to watch the film and analyze it. |

I thought that the movie reveals the secret of the typical American dream through two examples. The rich and how Gatsby’s dream was to be with Daisy. In my opinion this movie is not 100% like the book but I actually found them very similar; I think that its one of the few movies that actually connect in almost all the scenes with the book. I understood the book better after watching the movie because I am a visual learner and the vocabulary used was not as ancient and difficult as the one in the book. The sentences used in the movie where more decent to understand and if I had any trouble I could just see the “Mise in scene” and understand quickly. What did you analyze? I decided to analyze the colors and how they had meaning throughout the movie making “The Great Gatsby” actually look as if it was filmed in the 1919. I found it interesting that the middle class always used blue or baish suits while they where in the street and most of them used a hat; all of them very similar. Then, in Daisy’s house everything was white showing wealth. You could see this especially when the phone rang or when the curtains where opened. Also in the party the colors used where bright such as pink, light blue, light green, yellow, red and orange showing that they were having extreme fun and that the party was going well. Also the yellow car that Gatsby has shows how wealthy he is since having a yellow big car was not common in that time. Even when he passed over the lady nothing big happened to the car, it was like a small crush. Then all the servants always wore something black be it their suit, shirt, pants but where always wearing something black to show that they were servants. How does the book/movie connect to me? I connect the book to my life because I have many friends that are very wealthy; not sure if as Gatsby but the point is that they have a lot of money. I have seen that there are basically two types of wealthy people the type that is humidly and the one that thinks that they have extreme power over everyone. Family is the main key to this two sides; a family that takes care of their kids well and is united generally is humidly while the others |
