After a tough weeklong tournament, finally “Copa Cuatro Naciones, Cuidad Lima “finished. Four teams where chosen from the south American continent: Argentina, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. Each team came with their best absolute team, with the same objective; not to go on a tour but to earn the precious gold medal.
Each team has to present a maximum of 13 players, where number 1 and 13 have to be goalies by rule. Water polo is a tough sport, there’s a lot of contact underwater and you have to be physically and psychologically prepared if not you will collapse during a game. This tournament was transmitted by TVPeru through TV and the internet; there where cameras that filmed all of the angles, all of the moves on the court and out of the court. Campo de Marte, the pool where the tournament took place, had never been so full for a water polo match. In the final there where more than 500 people. Players in Peru had never played with such a great audience so the nerves and the pre-tournament state became even grater! After some tough semifinals, Argentina and Peru classified to the ending match, the final. Where the two best teams of the tournament would meet to discouse the gold medal. Argentina is the actual South American champion and ODESUR champion making the team earn respect and earn a name all over the continent. But Peru didn’t get intimidated by its name; before the final in the all vs. all round they had tied 11-11, a great match. |
This time things didn’t go as Peru wanted, Peru played well but not as well as Argentina did and lost the final by 4 goals; 11-7. Peruvian coach Jose Antonio Luque said “Argentina is a great team, they played well and won fairly. But theres always a rematch, water polo in Peru is just starting and thanks to TVPeru and the people that came to cheer the water polo family is growing. This tournament served the players well and they played great. We are now looking forward to the Absolute South American games in October; history will be written”.
Diego, Sebastian and myse the youngest players of the team thanked everyone that came to cheer and gave a special thanks to TVPeru, IPD and the FDPN; this tournament would be nothing without them.
Also, Fernando Noguera said “We entered with the wrong foot to the court, we reacted to late. We scored 1 goal on the second quarter and 6 on the 4th quarter. But this is just the beginning of 2014; there are many tournaments and games to come and we are sure that things will keep on improving”. Lets not forget that Silver is not bad at all!
